Kia ora! My name is Stephen Mushin – most people call me Steve.
I’m an industrial designer, illustrator, science communicator and workshop facilitator. I collaborate with organisations to imagine rewilded cities. I design exhibitions and playgrounds that explore science and conservation. I write about urban rewilding. I run talks and workshops on imagining future cities, with schools, government, design consultancies and corporates.
My first book ULTRAWILD (Allen & Unwin 2023) won Best Designed Children's Non-Fiction book (2024 Australian Book Design Awards), and the 2024 Elsie Locke Award For Best Nonfiction (NZ). It has been translated into German (Rotfuchs, 2024), and it will translated into French and Chinese, and released as a US edition in 2025.
