MEGAFAUNA ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND

10,000-50,000 years ago, megafauna ruled Australia. These included giant kangaroos, marsupial tigers, giant crocodiles, snakes and tapir, and diprotodons – van sized relatives of today’s wombat.

Between 2020-2021 I worked with Selby Community House in Melbourne to design the Wombalana Wild Garden adventure playground, based on Australian Megafauna. My work included landscape design in consultation with risk assessors, engineers and landscape builders. And designing a megafauna wombat – or Diprotodon – climbing structure, in collaboration with fabricator Sam Deal. This sculpture was built to the same size as actual diprotodons – who lived in the region 50,000 years ago.
